According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, every day in the United States more 1,060 people are injured in automobile accidents involving a distracted driver. Distracted driving is any activity that takes the driver’s attention away from the task of driving, such as texting while driving and eating while driving. Statistics from recent years demonstrate the dangers of distracted driving. For example, in 2011, approximately 387,000 people sustained injuries in vehicle accidents involving distracted driving. In 2010, almost 20% of all automobile accidents involved a distracted driver.
The Wisconsin personal injury lawyers of Samster, Konkel & Safran, S.C. are concerned about the dangers of distracted driving. We have joined with the Journal Broadcasting Group (“JBG”), including Today’s TMJ4, 620 WTMJ AM and the Lake 94.5 FM, as well as other sponsors, for the Band2Gether campaign, an effort to reduce distracted driving. The campaign is running from now until approximately the middle of October. Drivers can visit one of the JBG stations’ Facebook pages, “like” the page, and take the Band2Gether pledge to not text and drive. Drivers can then register for an IPad mini weekly giveaway. Drivers who visit and “like” the Samster, Konkel & Safran, S.C. Facebook page and the other sponsors’ Facebook pages can register another entry for the IPad mini giveaway. We will also have blue Band2Gether thumb bands for drivers to show their commitment to not text and drive. Drivers can visit our office at 1110 North Old World Third Street, Suite 405, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 53203, e-mail our office at email@example.com, or call our office at 414-224-0400 to get a Band2Gether thumb band.
