Community Groups Seek Input On Milwaukee Fire And Police Commission Vacancies

There are currently two vacancies on the City of Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission (“FPC”), the board which oversees the Milwaukee Police Department (“MPD”). Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has selected two candidates, who are currently undergoing background checks. In a letter to the Milwaukee Common Council, several community groups are asking for public input on Mayor Barrett’s candidates. Citing the recent revelations that MPD officers have allegedly conducted illegal searches and engaged in excessive force, the letter states that “it is necessary to assure the public that the board will be capable of moving forward and, given our recent history, will listen to the public.” Read more about the demand for public input on the FPC vacancies in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
