Information Regarding Distracted Driving in Wisconsin

Posted on

Distracted driving is a leading cause of automobile accidents. Examples of distracted driving include: (1) texting; (2) talking on the phone; (3) eating and drinking; (4) personal grooming; (5) talking to passengers; (6) reading; and (7) using the car radio. Probably the most dangerous form of distracted driving is texting while driving. In fact, texting while driving increases the risk of getting into an automobile accident by three times. The reason for this is that texting takes the driver’s eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, meaning that at 55 miles per hour, a texting driver will travel the length of a football field without looking at the road.

The Wisconsin personal injury lawyers of Samster, Konkel & Safran strongly encourage you not to text and drive. In fact, we are participating in a distracted driving campaign, along with the Journal Broadcasting Group (“JBG”), including Today’s TMJ4, 620 WTMJ AM and the Lake 94.5 FM, as well as other sponsors. The campaign, called “Band2Gether,” is an effort to reduce distracted driving on Wisconsin roads. The campaign is running from now until approximately the middle of October. Drivers who visit one of the JBG stations’ Facebook pages, “like” the page, and take the Band2Gether pledge to not text and drive, can then register for an IPad mini weekly giveaway. Drivers who visit and “like” the Samster, Konkel & Safran Facebook page and the other sponsors’ Facebook pages can register another entry for the IPad mini giveaway. Blue Band2Gether thumb bands are available for drivers to show their pledge to not text and drive. Visit our office at 11063 West Bluemound Road, Suite 205, Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, 53226, e-mail our office at info@skslawyers.com, or call our office to get Band2Gether thumb bands.
